Hardenhuish School is an 11 to 18 co-educational comprehensive school and sixth form in Chippenham, Wiltshire, England. It has been an academy since September 2010.

Admissions

The school is sited in the former Hardenhuish Manor and Chippenham Grammar School. The school holds specialist Mathematics and Computing College status. It has newly added a Science specialism. The headteacher is Mrs Jan Hatherall. It is an oversubscribed school. The School was given academy status in September 2010[1].

It is situated in the north part of Hardenhuish Park on the B4528 road. The Great Western Ambulance Service HQ is nearby to the east. Sheldon School is nearby to the south.

History

Grammar school

Chippenham Grammar School existed on the site from 1939, which was co-educational until Chippenham High School for Girls opened on 28 September 1956. From 1966, education was shared with adjacent schools, as a semi-comprehensive arrangement.

Comprehensive

In 1975 it became the fully comprehensive Hardenhuish School, when both boys' and girls' schools were merged. It became a specialist Maths & Computing College in February 2003, and a Science College in April 2009.

Academic performance

Hardenhuish received the tenth highest A-level average results for comprehensives in Wiltshire at the end of the 2009/2010 school year[2]. It has received many awards over recent years including: Maths and computing specialist, Science specialist, The ICT mark, Gifted and talented lead school and The International schools award. In the 2008 the school was reviewed by Ofsted as being 'Outstanding'[3]. In September 2010 Hardenhuish decided to become a "Gove Academy", which means that it is outside of Local Authority control or responsibility.
